Toyota’s Healthcare Robots Are Ready to Help You With Absolutely Everything

Written by Mahmoud Basho on . Posted in Featured, Robots & Robotics

Healthcare and elder care is a big concern in Japan, whose population is aging more rapidly than their current human-centric infrastructure is prepared to cope with. Companies like Toyota are hoping that robots will be able to pick up a little bit of the slack, and this week they've introduced four new robotic systems designed to help keep people healthy and independent as long as possible. The first couple systems are designed to provide single-leg walking assistance to people who Read more [...]

It might soon be possible to go a week or more without charging a smartphone. And eventually, we might see a phone that never needs to be plugged in. Illustration: Read more [...]

Listen To Your Music By Your Bones Rather Than Your Ears! The Bone Conduction Audio Technology!

Written by Mahmoud Basho on . Posted in Featured, Gadgets

I hate headphones. If they’re intended to deliver hiqh quality audio, like the noise-canceling ones I wear when flying, they squeeze my ears unpleasantly; if they're light and comfortable, they slip around. I hate earbuds even more. I’ve tried just about every type you can imagine, including custom,  and none of them feel at all comfortable. And I hate that my youngest son seems to have an earbud in just about every waking minute—I watch his volume controls, but still Read more [...]

Written by Mahmoud Basho on . Posted in Design & Creativity, Featured

You see your friends on Facebook, you chat on Facebook, why not also eat and sleep on Facebook? This is probably what Croatian designer Tomislav Zvonarić of DevianTom had in mind when creating this unusual bed. FBed concept is shaped like the logo of the worldwide famous social network and I believe I even see some “like” buttons on the small pillow and sheets there. Virtual-Reality Scent System Fools Flavor Sense!

Written by Mahmoud Basho on . Posted in Featured, Gadgets

What you see and smell is what you taste... Photo: University of Tokyo Sights, sounds, and more recently, touch are commonly employed to create and enhance virtual-reality (VR) experiences. But the sense of smell is rarely a factor. A small group of researchers at the University of Tokyo is working to change that by integrating the sense of smell and sight in a way that alters a person’s perception of taste. Their VR system was able to trick people who were eating a plain Read more [...]

Yes Qbo, you're looking in a mirror and this is you. Congratulations, you're now officially self aware! Okay, all us humans are gonna run for the hills now, see ya! Obviously, Qbo is too cute to be Skynet. Unless that's what it wants us to think. But let's just forget about all that right now and watch Qbo learn what he looks like: Nice! Japan Will Be Getting Vending Machines That Provide Free Wi-Fi

Written by Mahmoud Basho on . Posted in Entertainment & News, Featured

Pretty much everyone outside of Japan knows that Japan is a little weird, for better or worse. They’re pretty weird — or innovative, depending on how weirded out you are — when it comes to vending machines, offering a wide range of product through the automated box. Some vending machines over there work via an LCD screen rather than transparent glass, some serve up nothing but bananas, while others make hot ramen noodles and dump them in a bowl full of broth. Now, beverage company Asahi Soft Read more [...]

Japanese Car Seat Can Tell Who Is Sitting On It

Written by Mahmoud Basho on . Posted in Entertainment & News, Featured

A new kind of car seat developed by the Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology inTokyo is able to identify the person who is sitting on it. The seat works by using a system of 360 pressure sensors, which through their combined effort can apparently remember what it feels like to be sat on by you as opposed to anyone a little bit thinner or fatter. It seems like it would be a pretty inaccurate affair, but tests have shown that it has a 98% percent recognition rate, which is pretty good considering Read more [...]
